An Urgent Appeal to Help HOPE Hospital Combat COVID-19
India recently surpassed Brazil to become the world’s second worst-hit country in the COVID-19 pandemic. A second wave of infection is currently sweeping through the country and is considerably more infectious, and deadly, than the first. It is getting worse day by day.
According to our colleagues at HOPE Hospital, during the first wave children mostly remained asymptomatic, but this time they are exhibiting symptoms like diarrhoea and vomiting.
The government hospitals in Kolkata cannot cope with the new surge of cases and HOPE Hospital has now reopened it’s 10 bed COVID ward and converted 2 other wards to COVID wards. Right now we have 40 beds for COVID patients – all those beds are full.
We need your support more than ever, so that we can continue our mission to serve the most underprivileged people in our society. We urgently require the below items to treat patients in our existing ward and to open the new ward as soon as possible. You can also make a contribution to the cost of converting the new COVID ward.

To help combat the hospital bed crisis in Kolkata HOPE Hospital is now running 3 COVID wards with 40 beds and a diagnostic room for testing. If you would like to make a donation. towards the running costs of the new wards we would be enormously grateful.
Personal Protective Equipment is vital in protecting medical and paramedical staff working on the frontline who are exposed to the virus on a regular basis. If healthcare workers become sick then the healthcare capacity is reduced, making it more difficult to flatten the curve.
The PPE kit contains: gown, face guard, mask, gloves, shoe cover, head cover.
Our medical staff at HOPE hospital need to change their surgical masks and gloves regularly. We require 1,000 of each to treat 100 patients.
Your contribution will to be used to purchase: 30 surgical face masks and 30 pairs of disposable gloves.
For every 100 COVID patients treated our medical staff at HOPE Hospital will need approximately 250 litres of hand sanitiser.
Your contribution will to be used to purchase: A 5 litre container of liquid hand sanitiser.
Provide for all the nutritional requirements of a patient in the COVID ward for the duration of their treatment.

Our funding requirements for oxygen have been met for now, thanks to your extraordinary generosity.
COVID infected and damaged lungs are less effective at allowing oxygen to pass from the environment to the bloodstream. The main reason for being admitted to hospital with COVID-19 is to receive supplemental oxygen, to increase the amount of oxygen in the lungs and blood.Your contribution will to be used to purchase: An oxygen cylinder.
